Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 September 2026
The short version
Birdy has no user accounts and no servers of its own. Your alarms, streaks, mission photos and mood check-ins stay on your device, and the camera and microphone are used only on your device, during missions — nothing is ever recorded or uploaded. We don't run ad networks or sell data. The only outside services involved are Apple (payments and iCloud), RevenueCat (subscription management) and PostHog (anonymous usage statistics). That's it.
1. Who we are
Birdy ("Birdy", "the app", "we", "us") is an iOS wake-up alarm application operated by Mustafa Yiğit Şahin, an individual developer based in Türkiye. For any privacy question, contact us at yigitsahinyks@gmail.com.
This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Birdy app and this website. By using Birdy, you agree to this policy.
2. Information we do not collect
Unlike many apps, Birdy is built to hold as little of your data as possible. We do not:
- Require an account, name, phone number, or email to use the app;
- Run our own servers or database that stores your personal information;
- Track your location;
- Embed advertising networks or ad-tracking SDKs;
- Sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.
3. Information stored on your device
To do its job, Birdy saves data locally on your iPhone. This includes your alarm settings, your streak history, your chosen missions and their settings, the reference photos and image fingerprints you set up for the photo mission, and your morning mood check-ins.
This information lives on your device and is not transmitted to us. If you delete the app, this local data is removed with it.
4. iCloud backup of your streak
So you don't lose your progress if you change or reinstall your phone, Birdy backs up a small amount of streak data to your own iCloud account using Apple's iCloud key-value storage. This data sits in your personal iCloud, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We cannot read it, and it is tied to your Apple ID, not to us.
5. Camera, photos and microphone
Some wake-up missions use your iPhone's camera or microphone. In every case the processing happens entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to us or anyone else.
- Photo mission (camera): the reference images you set up and the photos you take to complete a mission are processed and stored on your device only — they are used solely to check whether your photo matches your reference.
- Catch Birdy mission (camera): the mission shows your camera's live view so you can find and catch Birdy in your room. Birdy does not record, save, or upload anything from that view.
- Scream mission (microphone): the microphone is used only to measure loudness while the mission is on screen. No audio is ever recorded, stored, or transmitted — the sound level is measured in the moment and immediately discarded.
You can revoke camera or microphone access at any time in your iPhone Settings; missions that need a revoked permission simply won't be available.
6. Purchases and subscriptions
Birdy offers a paid subscription and a one-time lifetime purchase. Payments are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store — we never see or receive your card details.
To manage your subscription status (for example, to know whether your trial is active), we use RevenueCat, a subscription-management service. RevenueCat receives your purchase transaction information and a randomly generated app-user identifier, along with limited technical data such as your device type, country, and app version, so that your entitlement can be verified across devices. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
7. Notifications
Birdy uses local notifications (such as the optional bedtime reminder) that are scheduled on your device. We do not operate a push-notification server and do not collect a push token.
8. Anonymous usage analytics
To understand which parts of Birdy work and which need fixing (for example, where people give up during setup), the app sends anonymous usage events — such as "onboarding started" or "alarm created" — to PostHog, an analytics service, together with limited technical data like device model, app version, and country.
These events are tied to a randomly generated identifier, not to your name, email, or any account (Birdy has none). They never include the contents of your alarms, your photos, your audio, or anything from your camera or microphone. See PostHog's Privacy Policy.
9. This website
This website is a simple static site. It does not use tracking or advertising cookies, and it runs no analytics. Like any website, our hosting provider (Netlify) may automatically log basic technical request data such as IP address and browser type for security and reliability purposes. We do not use this to identify you.
10. Third parties we rely on
- Apple — app distribution, in-app payments, and iCloud backup. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat — subscription and entitlement management. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- PostHog — anonymous usage analytics. See PostHog's Privacy Policy.
- Netlify — hosting for this website. See Netlify's Privacy Policy.
11. Legal bases (EU/UK GDPR)
Where the GDPR applies, we process the limited data described above on these bases: performance of a contract (to provide your purchased subscription), legitimate interests (to make the app function and stay secure, and to understand anonymous, aggregate usage of the app), and consent (for optional device permissions such as the camera and microphone, which you grant and can withdraw at any time).
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the EU/UK GDPR and Türkiye's KVKK), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing.
Because most of your data never leaves your device, you can exercise many of these rights yourself: deleting the app removes its local data, and you can revoke permissions in iPhone Settings. For data held by our processors (Apple, RevenueCat or PostHog), or to make any other request, email us at yigitsahinyks@gmail.com and we'll help.
13. Data retention
On-device data is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app. Subscription records held by Apple and RevenueCat, and anonymous analytics events held by PostHog, are retained according to their own policies and for as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal and accounting obligations.
14. International transfers
Our processors (Apple, RevenueCat, PostHog, Netlify) may process limited data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, these transfers rely on the safeguards those providers put in place.
15. Children
Birdy is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will address it.
16. Security
Your on-device data is protected by your iPhone's app sandbox and device encryption. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but because Birdy keeps so little and holds nothing on its own servers, there is very little about you for anyone to expose.
17. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date above and post the new version on this page.
